Audit Data Analytics Specialist (Contract)

ascio is hiring an Audit Data Analytics Specialist to support our audit, assurance and data analytics work across financial, procurement and operational environments.

This role will use data analytics to test complete populations rather than relying solely on samples, extracting and validating information from source systems, identifying exceptions and presenting results that audit teams and decision makers can rely on.

Responsibilities

1. Extract, transform and validate data from financial, procurement and operational systems.
2. Perform full-population testing, exception analysis and reconciliation back to source systems.
3. Conduct multi-year trend, distribution and comparative analysis and clearly document data limitations.
4. Design and maintain reusable audit analytics and test libraries.
5. Develop repeatable analytical procedures that can be used for future audits and monitoring.
6. Present analytical findings clearly using appropriate visualizations and supporting documentation.
7. Support audit and assurance teams with data requests, validation, quality checks and interpretation of results.
8. Document analytical procedures, assumptions, data lineage and results for audit files.

Required Skills and Experience

1. Four or more years of experience applying data analytics within audit, finance, risk, compliance or operational environments.
2. Strong experience extracting and validating data from financial and operational systems.
3. Experience performing full-population testing and exception analysis.
4. Strong data quality assessment and reconciliation skills.
5. Proficiency with SQL and Power BI, together with Python, R or a comparable analytical language.
6. Experience matching supplier, vendor, customer or transactional records where source data is incomplete or inconsistent.
7. Experience designing continuous auditing or continuous monitoring procedures.
8. Ability to identify data anomalies, patterns and exceptions and translate them into meaningful audit observations.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical analytical results clearly to non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

1. Degree in data analytics, accounting, computer science, statistics, information systems or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
2. Current CISA, CIA or relevant Microsoft data certifications are considered assets.
3. Applicants must be able to provide certification status and expiry or renewal dates, where applicable.
4. Experience with ACL Analytics, IDEA, Alteryx or comparable audit analytics platforms is considered an asset.

Preferred Experience

1. Financial and ERP data structures, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement and payroll.
2. Fraud and anomaly detection analytics.
3. Vendor and supplier duplicate-payment or relationship analysis.
4. Automation of recurring audit tests.
5. Development of continuous controls monitoring.
6. Power BI dashboard development for audit or risk reporting.
7. Documentation of analytical procedures and evidence suitable for internal or external audit files.
8. Experience working with large or complex data sets from multiple source systems.

Location and Work Arrangement

1. Remote within Canada.
2. Some assignments may require occasional onsite work or travel within Canada.
3. Applicants must be based in Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada.
